Chen, N.-Z., Garbatov, Y. and Guedes Soares, C. (2002), “Finite Element Analysis of a Fishing Vessel Built of Composite Materials, Proceedings of the 6th International Conference on Marine Science and Technology (Black Sea´02), 10-12 October, Varna, Bulgaria

The paper analyses the hull structure of a fishing vessel made of composite material. The finite element method is used for assessment of entire ship hull based on global and local detailed analyses. The loading applied to the hull is modeled as quasi-static. The results show that the induced stresses for the cases studied are much less than the permissible ones, which leads to conclusion that the fishing vessel has significant strength capacity. The paper also describes a procedure for a finite element analysis of longitudinal and local strength of a ship hull that can be used as for preliminary design as for reassessment of already designed ship hull.
