An experimental procedure has been implemented to measure progressive flooding on a small-scale damaged floating body. Focus is on estimating the discharge coefficient at different opening geometries in still water. It is shown that the coefficient cannot be assumed to be constant and within the traditional 0.6-0.65 range for all stages of the flow. Uncertainties related to the estimation of the coefficients and the limitations of the proposed method to measure progressive flooding accurately are investigated. The conclusions can be extrapolated to onboard progressive flooding assessment tools relying on measurements through water level sensors. Additionally, a preliminary study using a Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes Equations based model (RANS) to simulate flow was performed in order to demonstrate its capability to accurately reproduce the physical experiments.
