Guedes Soares, C. (1996), “Probabilistic Wave Modelling in Coastal Waters”, Técnica, nº1/96, pp. 31-42

This paper presents a summary of the main achievements of the WAVEMOD project. This project aims at developing the methodology to combine data from different sources so as to reduce as much as possible the duration of the measurement campaings that support the data base upon which the probabilistic models are constructed. It also aims at developing probabilistic models that are specifically applicable in coastal waters. The paper describes the field experiments aiming at calibrating data and describes the calibration of numerical models and remote sensed data. Finally the developments in spectral models. ARMA models and long-term models are described covering the different time scales of interest in the description of the wave climate.
