Castro-Santos, L. and Guedes Soares, C. (2016), “Economic feasibility of floating offshore wave farms in Galicia”, Progress in Renewable Energies Offshore, Guedes Soares, C., (Ed.), Taylor & Francis Group, London, UK, pp. 837-842

The aim of this paper is to analyze the economic feasibility of floating offshore wave farms. In this context, it is important to know the costs of the total life-cycle of the floating offshore wave farm, its Levelized Cost Of Energy (LCOE), the Net Present Value (NPV) and the Internal Rate of Return (IRR). In addition, some restrictions have been applied: seismic fault lines, navigation areas, and environmental protected zones, among others. The method proposed has been applied to the Galician area, located in the North-West of Spain, where the conditions of waves and the experience in the traditional shipbuilding can be exploited in the future. Results indicate how important the electric tariff is in this type of ocean renewable energy and the most important areas where a floating offshore wave farm can be installed in Galicia.
