A linear frequency domain code is applied to investigate the hydrodynamic performance of an offshore wave activated body energy converter, based on potential flow theory. Annual produced energy is analysed, taking into account the yearly sea state characteristics at a specific location off the Portuguese west coast. Hindcast wave data from 1979 to 2007 is used as the typical wave climate being analysed. The relative pitch motion response of this device is used to absorb energy, which is simulated using WAMIT’s Generalized Modes. The effects of device size on WEC energy output are assessed and analysed in light of the mean absorbed energy, and an optimum configuration is reached.
