Uzunoglu, E. and Guedes Soares, C. (2016), “Generic supervisory system for the automation of model building, and iterative simulations with the wind turbine simulation tool FAST”, Progress in Renewable Energies Offshore, Guedes Soares, C., (Ed.), Taylor & Francis Group, London, UK, pp. 627-635

The paper describes a system of modules that aims to simplify working with the wind turbine simulation code FAST. It is geared towards simplicity and efficiency and is devised to require the minimum additional input apart from the simulation tool’s own input. The suggested implementation is generic, signifying that a single code without alterations is used for all FAST files and versions. The preprocessing proposes a method of rectangular matrix data entry to reduce possible errors in iterative simulations. Post processing modules include plotting, calculation of response amplitude operators and spectral densities, assessment of static equilibrium and input data backup. The current work lays the foundation for unsupervised iterative simulations, model building through additional codes, and optimization. A simple automated model calibration using linear regression is given as an explanatory example.
