In this paper, a review is made of the work in which the author was involved of calculating and measuring of thermal loading and welding induced distortions and stress are introduced in plates. An experimental program was conducted in small specimen, measuring the effects of welding and modelling them numerically, showing that in general a good agreement was achieved.
