The wave power peaks are tenfold of the mean absorbed wave power [1], and so, strongly contribute to the final generated power. The oil-hydraulic technology is well adapted to these power peaks, however the actual PTO designs should be improved in order to explore the potential of this technology (Fig. 1). For example, Wavestar WEC [1] works with a double rod cylinder, which is adequate for the WEC phase control, but the admissible force supported by the cylinder is 42 Ton. However, this force, and so the captured peak power, can be twice the original one by using a single rod cylinder (Fig. 2). Despite of this advantage, the cylinder is not symmetrical and supports this higher force in one stroke only. Moreover the cylinder has more than 6 m of length which can be reduced by half with a single rod cylinder.
