A 12-year hindcast study is performed between 1979 and 1990 to determine the variability and the tendencies across the west coast of France, in particular in the test area of Le Croisic. To generate waves in the entire North Atlantic basin, WAVEWATCH III is used. Its outputs are then used as boundary conditions for SWAN that is implemented to study the evolution of the waves in the French coast. The significant wave height and wave power monthly means are calculated for Ile d’Yeu buoy location, for each year. The inter-annual and seasonal variability is estimated around the coastal area of Le Croisic showing the energy flux ranges. The trend lines of each season are also studied reviling the upward trends in Hs and Pw, special in the winter period over the entire hindcast study.
