This paper assesses the wave energy capture performance of different wave energy converters in the northern coastal environment of Portugal continental. Based on three different data sources (DS), the performances of 10 relevant types of wave energy converters were evaluated. In order to estimate the electric power (PE) that is expected to be provided in a particular location by a certain wave energy converter (WEC), the association between the WEC power matrix and the scatter diagram of the sea state frequency corresponding to the respective location in a determined time interval is considered. Besides the expected values of the electric power, two different efficiency indicators were also evaluated. The first is the load factor (IL) and the second is the capture width (CW).
