Guedes Soares, C. (1990), “Stochastic Modelling of Maximum Still-Water Load Effects in Ship Structures”, Marine Structures, Vol. 3, pp. 319-339

Statistical analysis of data on still-water loads induced by the distribution of cargo in sucessive voyages indicates that for some types of ships the probability distributions exhibit a truncation effect at the maximum allowed value. A model based on a Monte Carlo simulation is proposed to represent that effect. The predictions obtained from this model are calibrated ewith measured data and they are used as a basis to develop a model of the probabilistic distribution of maximum still-water load effects. This model is used to predict the probability of the maximum allowed value being exceeded and the occurrence of the maximum value for different return periods.
