Guedes Soares, C. and Moan, T. (1988), “Statistical Analysis of Still Water Load Effects in Ship Structures”, Transactions of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, New York, Vol. 96, Issue 4, pp. 129-156

A statistical analysis is performed of stillwater bending moments and shear force data from about 2000voyages of 100 ships from 39 shipwners from 14 countries. The study aims at establishing the variability of the maximum stillwater load effects that occur during the operation of oceangoing ship. In addition to providing summary statistics, this study identifies the effects of ship type, ship size, and loading condition. Regression equations are proposed to quantify these effects. the longitudinal distribution of the load effects is also considered and the influence of ship type is identified.
