Silva, F. and Guedes Soares, C. (2000), “3D Virtual Environments for Ship Manoeuvring Simulation”, Proceedings of the 1st International EuroConference on Computer Applications and Information Technology in the Maritime Industries (COMPIT’00), 29 March-2 April, Potsdam, Germany, pp. 438-44

The paper reviews the recent applications of virtual reality to manoeuvring simulators, which have concentrated on full mission simulators. It is argued thet the benefits of virtual environments can also be applied to partial mission simulation. The paper describes the developments that have already been made in the development of such a system, dealing in particular with the combination of the virtual and real models. A case study simulating the entrance in the Tagus estuary , in Lisbon., illustrates the approach addopted.
