(2016), “Fatigue analysis and optimization of non-load-carrying fillet welded joints based on the effective notch stress approach”, Maritime Technology and Engineering 3, Guedes Soares, C. & Santos T. A., (Eds.), Taylor & Francis Group, London, UK, pp. 443-449

In order to avoid earlier weld root failure and to distribute evenly the existing fatigue strength between the weld toe and root, achieving the same fatigue life, an optimum weld configuration is proposed based on the effective notch stress approach. Two cases, corresponding to the as-welded and improved weld toes are considered, resulting in two optimum weld configurations for each welded joint. Two types of non-load-carrying fillet weld joints with three different weld shapes are analyzed here accounting for the existence of a longitudinal or transversal attachment.
