A time domain finite element method is applied to study the semi-taut mooring damping properties. The sinusoidal oscillations are implemented at the top ends of the mooring line and the mooring induced damping is then obtained with the Indicator Diagram Method. The effects of amplitudes and frequencies of low frequency motions on mooring line damping are investigated first. Afterwards the wave frequency motions are superimposed into low frequency motions, the influence of these motions on mooring line damping are evaluated. Besides, the effects of weights and buoys installed on mooring line damping are studied. In the end, studies on mooring line damping variations with current, drag coefficients and inertial coefficients changing are presented.
