This work aims to study how the uncertainties in the initial characteristics of a vessel (displacement, draft and trim) and in the hydrodynamic coefficients are propagated by two maneuvering models, a linear and a non-linear one. The analysis is propagated through the mathematical models and the effects on ship’s response in sway and yaw, using the Monte Carlo method. The responses are limited to the simulation of a turning circle manoeuvre and the uncertainty is characterized on the parameters that describe the circle manoeuvre, exhibiting also the effect of model uncertainty, i.e. the uncertainty associated with the mathematical model adopted.
