The objective of the paper is to assess the impact on the coastal circulation induced by a bottom mounted equipment, such as the wave roller energy converter that operates in the coast of Portugal, near Peniche. For this purpose, the ISSM computational environment was used, which is a hybrid framework that integrates the 1D Surf model in the Swan spectral wave model, allowing a joint evaluation of the wave propagation patterns and the wave induced nearshore currents. Considering four scenarios of wave conditions (low, average, high and extreme waves) and various levels for tide, the longshore currents were evaluated. Then, to assess the impact of the farm on the coastal circulation it was assumed that its presence induces decreases of the significant wave heights between 10% and 40%, evaluating again the longshore currents. The results show that the presence of the wave energy farm would have, a beneficial influence on the shoreline dynamics leading to a decrease of the coastal erosion.
