This work presents a numerical model prepared for the NREL 5MW based experimental turbine setup scaled at 1/50. The support platform is a DeepCwind based tri-floater concept that consists of three buoyancy columns connected to a fourth column to carry the turbine and the tower. The experimental turbine presents differences in comparison to the conceptual turbine and this work aims to obtain the thrust and generator power that corresponds to the experiments. The generator uses a simplified approach for this purpose. The support platform model is introduced and explained. To validate the model, the numerical setup is evaluated in two isolated cases. Initial results are provided in presence of wind with no waves, and a second set is presented in regular head waves in the absence of wind. The motion responses of the platform, tower bending moment, and mooring forces are evaluated.
