The power extracted from the waves can be maximized with an adequate control of the Wave Energy Converter movement. This is carried out with phase control strategy which aims to synchronize the converter oscillatory speed with the wave incident force. The strategy is implemented with accumulators or pumps that are designed in order to achieve the right control parameters, spring and damping ones. However, the use of a combination of accumulators and pumps in phase control is not presented in the research literature. The objective of this paper is to present a PTO concept to implement this approach and compare it with PTOs controlled only with accumulators or pumps. This is made with Simulink and Artificial Neural Network based efficiency models and with standard hydraulic components.
