In the present study, the wave energy conversion of fully-submerged surging plates of finite width is analyzed. The hydrodynamic coefficients are computed and analyzed based on the linearized theory of water waves. The submerged plate is modelled as a non-zero thickness rotating about an axis located in the seabed and perpendicular to the wave propagation direction. A parametric study was made by varying the plate width, height and thickness. The equation of motion was derived in the frequency domain and the influence of the plate width, thickness and height in the power extraction is assessed. The present study is essential for a proper design and analysis of surging wave energy converter to exploit the beneficial effect of resonance in enhancing the amplitude of oscillation of the flap in order to capture more wave power.
