Hashemzadeh, M., Chen, B.Q. and Guedes Soares, C. (2015), “Numerical and Experimental Study on Butt Weld with Dissimilar Thickness of thin Stainless Steel Plate”, International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2015, Vol. 78, pp. 319-330

The welding of stainless steel plates with different thickness have been investigated by means of numerical and experimental methods. Both thermal and structural analyses have been performed to measure temperature distributions and distortions. Longitudinal residual stress distribution has been predicted in the numerical study. The results of this study reveal that numerical results are in good agreement with experimental measurements. The maximum temperature occurs in the thinner plate close to weld line but away from the weld line the maximum temperature occurs in the thicker one. Vertical and angular distortions in thinner plate are higher than in the thicker one. In the thicker plate the vertical displacement is almost constant and near to zero.
