Gaspar, B., Teixeira, A.P. and Guedes Soares, C. (2013), “Assessment of the efficiency of Kriging models for reliability analysis of complex structures”, Taylor & Francis Group, London, UK, pp. 5247-5255

This paper presents an assessment of the efficiency of the Kriging interpolation models for reliability analysis of complex structures. A structural reliability problem of practical importance that consists in the reliability assessment of a stiffened plate element regarding its ultimate compressive strength obtained by means of an advanced nonlinear finite element analysis is adopted as numerical example. A systematic comparison of the accuracy of the failure probability predicted with the first-order reliability method using the Kriging interpolation models and the common polynomials regression models as response surface models is presented. The effect of the number of support points and order of the Kriging basis functions on the failure probability accuracy is characterized.
