Makouei, S.H., Teixeira, A.P. and Guedes Soares, C. (2014), “Reliability analysis of a corroded double hull Aframax tanker ship for hull girder and deck panel limit states”, Francis & Taylor Group, London, UK, pp. 735-746

The paper compares the reliability assessments developed for the limit states of hull girder and deck structure ultimate strengths. The IACS’s CSR analytical approach for hull girder strength evaluation and alternatively non-linear finite element analysis (FEA) are used for strength assessment. The time dependent effect of corrosion on the strength and on the reliability of the hull girder and deck panels is considered. The probabilistic models of the hull girder strength are obtained by Monte Carlo simulation considering the uncertainties on the Young modulus, yield stress and thicknesses of the structural elements of the hull girder. The deck panel reliability is performed using the Response Surface Method (RSM) on the basis systematic numerical calculations of the ultimate strength of deck stiffened panels by non-linear FEA. Both the uncertainty on the still water and the wave induced bending moments are considered in the reliability formulation and the reliability analysis is performed using the First-Order Reliability Method (FORM). A time-invariant reliability formulation with time-dependent probabilistic models of the hull girder and deck stiffened panels strengths is considered.
