This work analyses the effect of residual stress on the ultimate strength assessment of a stiffened panel accounting for welding sequences. The analysis is performed by finite element method employing commercial software. The heat source is defined as a moving heat one in order to simulate welding processes and consequently residual stresses. Three types of welding sequence have been conducted. Modified material stress strain curves have been developed to account for the welding sequence that can be directly used in the non-linear finite element analysis of the ultimate strength of stiffened panels.
