The work reviews recently developed mathematical tools for the reliability assessment of marine structures subjected to the degrading effect of corrosion and fatigue. The models allow for the existence of multiple cracks both in the stiffeners and in the plating and they represent the crack growth process. The corrosion growth is presented as a time dependent process representing realistic situations of corrosion deterioration for ship structures. The effect of corrosion on the section modulus accounts for various corrosion thicknesses and it is used as the reference variable to measure the reliability of the ship hull against collapse. The effect of maintenance actions is modelled as a stochastic process and different repair policies including the one adopted by the new IACS common structural rules are discussed.
