Presented herein is the review of literature on the existing hydroelasticity theories to analyze different types of floating and submerged structures relevant to the field of Marine Technology and Arctic Engineering. The gradual developments in the aforementioned field of research are surveyed thoroughly and the important publications are cited. In the present context, the review is aimed to discuss the theoretical progress made in the application of hydroelasticity for the analysis of Very Large Floating Structures (VLFS) and large floating ice-fields. However, a brief discussion on wave interaction with flexible breakwaters, an overview on ship hydroelasticity and recent developments on wave propagation over a flexible bottom are analyzed. The basic mathematical formulation for the analysis of floating flexible structure in water of finite and infinite depths is described in detail. Different types of mathematical models to handle floating structures of different geometries with homogeneous and/or non-homogeneous material properties are reviewed in detail. After an elaborate literature survey, the relevant expansion formulae along with the orthogonal mode-coupling relations are described in brief. As applications of the expansion formulae, few results on flexural gravity wave scattering by articulated floating elastic plates, flexural gravity wave scattering by uneven bottom topography and wave scattering by floating membrane are presented.
