Rodriguez, G.R., Petrova, P.G. and Guedes Soares, C. (2011), “Short term wave statistics in sea states with two peaked spectrum”, Maritime Engineering and Technology, Guedes Soares et al. (Eds),Taylor & Francis Group, London, pp. 147-163

A review is provided of the advances in the study of spectral and statistical properties of wind-generated waves resulting from the combination of wave fields locally generated and arriving from distant storms, giving rise to sea states characterized by a two peaked energy spectrum. The review includes advances in the identification, classification and parameterization of spectral estimations, both in the frequency and frequency-direction domains. The joint, conditional and marginal statistical properties of individual characteristic wave parameters within a sea state, as well as the groupiness phenomenon, and the ability of existing models to characterize its statistical properties are reviewed. Special consideration is given to the probability of occurrence of very large wave heights in this kind of sea states.
