The objective of this work is to analyze the effect of different finite element models on the ultimate strength assessment of plates and stiffened panels. The analysis is performed by the finite element method using commercial software, where the effect of element size and type, boundary conditions, shape of initial imperfection, thickness and net sectional configuration on the ultimate strength are evaluated. The ultimate strength estimated for four different finite element models and different structural configurations are compared to the solution defined by the new Common Structural Rules.
