The ultimate strength of several stocky stiffened panels under axial compressive load is calculated by finite element (FE) analyses, and then are compared with experimental results. Three type stiffeners with different steels are considered, including flat, ‘L’ and ‘U’ stiffeners. They are made of mild or high tensile steel for bar stiffeners and mild steel for ‘L’ and ‘U’ stiffeners. To analyze the behavior of the middle bays, avoiding the effect of the boundary conditions, three bays stiffened panel were used in the tests and in the FE analyses. The influences of the stiffener’s geometry on the ultimate strength are investigated
