The nonlinear rolling motion of ships in regular seas is studied. The nonlinear differential equation is analyzed using the phase plane analysis and the Runge-Kutta fourth-order method of numerical solution. The damping moment coefficient is determined by the method of component analysis, leading to an equivalent linear damping coefficient. These methods were implemented in a computer program, which was used to analyze the behavior of three fishing vessels and one fishery research vessel.
