A method to predict ship speed in any conditions of wind and wave is presented. This tool can allow the assessment of the voyage time as well as the study of ship routing. The method takes into account the hydrodynamic properties of the hull and the propeller as well as the environmental conditions. A new method is presented to quantify the added resistance induced by the waves. A comparison is made between the environmental and operational conditions recorded onboard a series of ships in different voyages and the prediction of the method, showing it’s good performance.
