Rong, H., Teixeira, A.P. and Guedes Soares, C. (2024), Analysis of collision risk indicators in ship collision avoidance behaviour using Logistic Regression, Advances in Maritime Technology and Engineering, Guedes Soares, C. & Santos T.A. (Eds.), Taylor and Francis, London, UK, pp. 143-150.
The aim of the present study is to analyse the collision risk indicators that influence the collision avoidance behaviour. First, Risk Influencing Factors, including the Distance to Closest Point of Approach, Time to Closest Point of Approach, relative speed, relative bearing, approaching angle and ship domain, are calculated at the time the evasive action is taken and at the closest point in near collision scenarios. Subsequently, a logistic regression model is developed to investigate whether there are significant changes in the Risk Influencing Factors taken their values at the closest point as baseline categories. The results of this evaluation contribute to a deeper understanding of collision risks and avoidance behaviour in encounter scenarios, facilitating improved safety measures and informed decision-making for ship operators and maritime authorities.
