A robust optimization model is proposed aiming to improve the search for an optimal configuration of offshore production systems. The new mathematical model integrates safety and economic contraints by looking for the minimum infrastructure cost and, simultaneously, the minimum expected loss of pipelines. The present approach enhances the literature and decision-making process by allowing the model to consider the structural material of the pipeline as rigid and flexible getting closer to real projects. The worst-case scenario is adopted to represent the uncertainty of the pipeline failure, which also enables a tractable formulation to solve the problem. The efficiency of the proposed model is demonstrated using a case study. The subsea system layout elements may be identified by the model considering the safety and economic concerns, and the initial production system costs are also defined.
