Garbatov, Y. and Georgiev, P. (2024), Uncertainty analysis of EEDI and bulk carrier conceptual design, Advances in Maritime Technology and Engineering, Guedes Soares, C. & Santos T.A. (Eds.), Taylor and Francis, London, UK, pp. 43-52.
The present study analyses uncertainties and their impact on ship design. A Sensitivity Analysis (SA) is used to understand the uncertainty related to different stages of ship design, which will permit an uncertainty-based decision-making approach to be employed. It brings the SA into the uncertainty analysis of the
Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI). A general workflow is introduced in implementing SA as a best practice through a multi-objective reliability-based robust design optimisation of handy-size bulk carriers. Additionally, it verifies the application of SA, focusing on the most widely used algorithms that can be used in ship design. The SA models are initially used to evaluate the EEDI and later to ship design. Reliability-based robust design optimisation has been applied as a part of a multi-objective concept design optimisation framework.
