Liu, D., Siow, C-L., Kang, H-S. and Guedes Soares, C. (2024), Detection and analysis of near collision scenarios in the Malacca Strait, Advances in the Collision and Grounding of Ships and Offshore Structures, H. Le Sourne & C. Guedes Soares (Eds.), Taylor & Francis Group, London, UK, pp. 75-81.
This study presents a framework for near collision assessment with a data filtering process and modified Ship Domain Overlapping Indicator (SDOI). The optimal distribution fit of ship length in terms of different vessel types provides a statistical basis for determining the ship domain parameters. The near-collision scenarios detected with SDOI are analyzed according to head-on, crossing, and overtaking categories. This research provides specific references for the likelihood of ship near collision in terms of consequences and geographic distribution in Malacca Strait.
