Silva, L.M.R. and Guedes Soares, C. (2023), Robust optimization model of an offshore oil production system for cost and pipeline risk of failure, Reliability Engineering and System Safety, Vol. 232, 109052

A robust optimization model is proposed to support decision-makers to define the most feasible production system taking into consideration the economic, design and operational analysis of the system. Besides searching for the minimum global investment cost, the new methodology looks for the optimal production system that also minimizes the risk level of the pipeline system. The integration of these aspects into the objective function guides the model to analyse all the possible combinatorial solutions without prioritizing only the cost, which may result in a design of an unsafe system, or the risk level, which may define a conservative solution. A model verification process and case study are presented and discussed to demonstrate the performance of the proposed methodology.
