A numerical study is presented on eight short stiffened panels with four type stiffeners made of mild or high tensile steel for bar stiffeners and mild steel for ‘L’ and ´U’ stiffeners, which have been tested and reported earlier. Three bays stiffened panel were used in the test to produce adequate boundary conditions at the loaded edges. These eight short stiffened panels are simulated numerically with finite elements and compared with test on under axial compression until collapse. The stiffened panels with different combinations of mechanical material properties and geometric configurations are considered. The initial geometric imperfection with different measurement data and formula method affect the collapse behavior of stiffened panel and is analyzed in FEM simulation. The influences of the stiffener’s geometry and boundary conditions on the ultimate strength of the stiffened panels under compression are also investigated.
