Guedes Soares, C. and Teixeira, A.P. (2001), “Strength of Compressed Rectangular Plates Subjected to Lateral Pressure", Journal of Constructional Steel Research, Vol. 57, pp. 491-516
This paper presents results of a parametric study to quantify the effect of lateral pressure on the collapse of square and rectangular steel plates under predominantly compressive load. The load-shortening behaviour of square and rectangular plates under the combined effect of longitudinal compression and lateral pressure were obtained using a general-purpose non-linear finite element code for different breadth to thickness ratio. Finally design curves are proposed to predict the collapse strength of the compressed plates under lateral pressure.
