This paper investigates the vertical motions and bending moments of a FPSO platform in regular waves and also in several design storms corresponding to the 100 years return period of the North Sea. In regular waves several amplitudes were tested for the wave frequency corresponding to the peak of the vertical bending moment transfer function. The objective to assess the influence of is the wave amplitude on the nonlinear behavior of the responses. The design storms correspond to the North Sea wave climate and have 3 hours of duration. The investigation includes model tests, and respective analysis, and numerical simulations with a time domain seakeeping model that considers nonlinear effects. The results are compared with rule minimum requirements.
