Zhang, W., Xu, S. and Guedes Soares, C. (2025), Parametric study of embedded mooring tensions with a coupled EulerianLagrangian approach, Innovations in Renewable Energies Offshore, Guedes Soares, C. & Wang S. (Ed.), Taylor and Francis Group, London, UK, 455-462.
With the exploitation of marine resources extends into the deep sea, the increasingly severe marine weather and extreme conditions pose a great challenge to mooring systems. It is essential that exploring the complex interaction between the chain and soil in the seabed. In the present work, the coupled EulerianLagrangian (CEL) is employed for large deformation finite element analysis. The mooring chain is modeled as discrete cylindrical rigid body elements, which connected by LINK connectors to construct the mooring chain. By comparing with previous studies, the results reveal that the profile properties of the embedded chain and the relationship between tension and chain angle at the attachment point demonstrate great agreement. On this basis, this paper summarizes the existing research on the factors affecting the interaction between the chain and soil, and investigates the tension and its transmitting at the embedded mooring chains. The study demonstrates that the CEL method can effectively analyze tension at the mudline, embedded line, and padeye.
