Biroli, M.V., Wang, S. and Guedes Soares, C. (2025), Dynamic analysis comparison of shared mooring system for offshore wind turbine platforms, Innovations in Renewable Energies Offshore, Guedes Soares, C. & Wang S. (Ed.), Taylor and Francis Group, London, UK, 369-378.

The objective of the study is to analyze the effects of different shared mooring configuration of two spar platforms using the numerical method SESAM/SIMA. The system with the NREL offshore 5-MW wind turbine installed on an OC3-Hywind spar buoy in deep water (320 m) is applied in the study. Firstly, the static design will be performed using the open-source code Moorpy. The static results are compared with the ones from SIMA and from the literature. Next, fully coupled dynamic analysis of the moored dual-spar platform is performed by choosing three different mooring configurations: the conventional, shared anchors and shared moorings. The surge motion of the system and the mooring line tensions are compared. Then the effects of the distance between the spars and the material properties of the shared mooring line on the motions and tension are discussed.
