The present study aims to investigate the dynamics of a large articulated floating circular offshore platform composed of hinged circular modules connected with mooring lines based on numerical BEM code. Analyzing the hydroelastic response and mechanical couplings in the connection points can greatly help ensure the safety and serviceability of offshore operations in marine environments. The numerical formulation is based on the time and frequency domain multi-body hydrodynamics under linearized potential flow theory. The numerical results between the hinged and non-hinged floating circular modules are compared. The effects of different designs and physical parameters on the dynamics of the articulated floating flexible structure are studied by analyzing several numerical results of heave response, cable tensions, bending moments, wave transmissions, and contour plots. It is observed that the hinged floating structure is more stable than that of a non-hinged structure. The present analysis will help understand the dynamics of articulated structures for designing a large floating platform under different environmental conditions.
