The study investigates the behaviour of a liquified natural gas carrier in regular head waves using the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics meshfree method implemented in DualSPHysics. A numerical wave tank in three-dimensional domain is generated using the modified Dynamic Boundary Conditions and compared with the theoretic wave surface using Stokes equation. Heave and pitch motions of the vessel without forward speed are then predicted in time domain considering various wave heights and frequencies. Comparisons between the model tests measurement and numerical simulations are made on the time series of the motions. Considering the overall good agreement with the experiments and the low computational cost, the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics method can be considered a good alternative tool for seakeeping analysis for marine structures.
