(2024), Accuracy of the SPH-based solver DualSPHysics to reproduce hydrodynamic forces on bodies in a steady flow, Advances in Maritime Technology and Engineering, Guedes Soares, C. & Santos T.A. (Eds.), Taylor and Francis, London, UK, pp. 113-120.
In this work, the hydrodynamics forces on semi-submerged and submerged cylinders under a steady flow are analysed using the numerical code DualSPHysics, which implements the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method. The published experimental tests which were conducted in the Shanghai Ship and Shipping Research Institute, for submerged and semi-submerged cylinders under steady flow with several velocities are reproduced. Horizontal (drag) and vertical (lift) hydrodynamics forces for each case are obtained from the numerical code DualSPHysics. The accuracy of the code is obtained by the comparison of the numerical drag and lift forces against the experimental ones. Once the accuracy of the code is assessed, the analysis of more complex problems as, for example, the interaction of waves and currents with floating bodies can be analysed.
