This study investigates Flow-induced Vibration (FIV) of cylinders free-to-move in the direction perpendicular to the flow, employing experimental and numerical approaches. Vortex-Induced Vibration (VIV) and Wake-Induced Vibration are explored, the latter involving two aligned cylinders exhibiting amplitude buildup with increasing flow velocity. Experimental tests in the NDF lab at the University of São Paulo utilized channels for high and low Reynolds numbers, estimating natural frequencies and damping through decay tests. Numerical analysis with Ansys Fluent employed the Finite Volume Method, necessitating Dynamic Mesh and 6 DOF settings. Both methods yielded similar results, indicating that the lift oscillation frequency matched the vortex shedding frequency (fs) and drag oscillation at 2fs. The study enhances understanding of FIV mechanisms, offering valuable insights into dynamic interactions between cylinders and fluid flow.
