The scope of the offshore renewable energy sector that is currently expected to make significant participations to the energy system in the medium to long duration was separated to: • Offshore wind • Wave energy • Tidal stream Europe has a large amount of natural resource across the three offshore renewable energy sectors. Technically offshore wind, wave and tidal together could supply 100% of Europe’s future electricity demand (Tab. 1). These resources present significant opportunities with respect to increased energy security, emissions reductions, and economic benefits including job creation (Fig. 1). The literature says that the most energy-rich areas are between 40? and 60? in both hemispheres (Fig. 2).
