Gadelho, J., Karmakar, D., Lavrov, A. and Guedes Soares, C. (2015), “CFD analysis of a rigid bottom fixed submerged structure”, Renewable Energies Offshore, Guedes Soares, C. (Ed.), Taylor & Francis Group, London, UK, pp. 531-537

In the present study, the numerical modeling of the bottom fixed rigid structure will be performed using OpenFOAM. The OpenFOAM solver is based on the native InterFoam which solves free surface Newtonian flows using the Navier-Stokes equations coupled with a volume of fluid (VOF) method. The numerical results obtained using OpenFOAM for the rigid bottom fixed structure will be validated with the analytical results for the bottom fixed barrier based on the linearized wave theory. Further, the wave reflection, transmission and dissipation coefficients, pressure distribution and the free surface elevation of the propagating wave will be demonstrated using the present CFD approach. The CFD analysis using OpenFOAM shows a good performance of the numerical model for proper generation and propagation of waves over a 2D wave flume. The CFD study will be helpful in the hydrodynamic analysis on the interaction of incident waves with submerged rigid structures.
