In the present work the roll response of a ship in under regular beam seas is studied. The results of an experimental program are presented, where a 1:100 scale model of the bulk carrier was tested in a wave basin. For the calculation of the damping, free-decay tests with several initial angles were performed. Numerical results are presented for the roll response non-linear differential equation of a bulk carrier. To represent the damping moment, a linear plus quadratic formulation was used. The restoring moment was represented by a fifth order odd polynomial.
