In the project HIPOCAS “Hindcast of Dynamic Processes of the Ocean and Coastal Areas of Europe”, developed in the framework of the European Program “Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development” a hindcast analysis was made of 44 years wind and wave conditions (between 1958 and 2001), in the coastal European waters. Using as boundary conditions the wave fields provided by these large scale simulations, and also the wind data fields calculated then, hindcasts have been made of the wave conditions in the shallow water conditions up to the entrance of major ports.
