Guedes Soares, C., Eatock-Taylor, R. and Ewans, K. (2015), “Safe offloading from floating LNG platforms”, Applied Ocean Research, 2015, Vol. 51, pp. 252-254

s the quest for oil and gas has moved towards deeper water, more remote locations and smaller fields, floating system technol-ogy has become an increasingly cost-effective development option. In particular, Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO)systems offer an economically attractive technology for developingfields for a variety of shallow and deep-water environments. There is increasing interest in the use of FPSO systems with nat-ural gas fields in locations such as waters off the west coast of Africawhere the local market for gas is relatively small. It also avoids thecost of a long gas pipeline for locations far from any land wherea liquefaction plant could be operated. There are potentially largeeconomic, safety and environmental advantages in liquefying thenatural gas on the production barge and offloading it to a shuttlegas carrier. Such a system is usually referred to as floating liquefiednatural gas or FLNG.
